Welcome to your first step in securing your crypto assets. Ledger® hardware wallets, in combination with the Ledger Live app, give you unmatched control and security over your digital assets. This guide will walk you through the entire setup process, from unboxing your device to managing your portfolio.
Before diving into the setup, make sure you have the following:
A genuine Ledger® hardware wallet (Nano S Plus, Nano X, or Stax)
A secure internet connection
A computer or smartphone (depending on your device)
A pen and the Recovery Sheet (included in the box)
Ledger Live app downloaded from the official site
Ledger Live is the companion app that lets you manage your crypto assets securely. It’s available for desktop (Windows, macOS, Linux) and mobile (iOS, Android).
Visit https://www.ledger.com/start.
Choose your operating system.
Download and install the Ledger Live application.
Launch the app and click on “Get Started.”
⚠️ Important: Always download Ledger Live from the official website to avoid fake versions.
When you open Ledger Live, you'll be asked to set up your device.
Select your device model: Nano S Plus, Nano X, or Stax.
Click “Set up a new device.”
Follow the on-screen instructions:
Choose a PIN code (4 to 8 digits)
Write down the 24-word recovery phrase on the Recovery Sheet provided
Confirm the recovery phrase to verify you wrote it down correctly
💡 Tip: Never take a photo of your recovery phrase. Keep it offline and safe.
Once your device is set up:
Connect it to your computer via USB or Bluetooth (Nano X only).
Ledger Live will detect your device and verify its authenticity.
You may be prompted to allow Ledger Live to access the Manager.
This step confirms the device is genuine and hasn’t been tampered with.
Your Ledger device doesn’t support cryptocurrencies out of the box. You need to install the apps for the coins you want to manage.
In Ledger Live, go to “Manager”.
Unlock your Ledger device.
Search for your desired cryptocurrency (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum).
Click “Install.”
Your device will show the progress and confirm when the app is installed.
After installing apps, you need to add accounts to track balances and perform transactions.
Go to “Accounts” in Ledger Live.
Click “Add Account.”
Select the cryptocurrency.
Connect your device and follow the instructions to verify.
Once added, your account will appear in the Portfolio section of Ledger Live.
Now you’re ready to transact!
Go to “Receive”.
Select the account.
Connect your device and verify the address shown in Ledger Live matches the one on your device.
Share this address with the sender.
Click “Send.”
Choose your account and enter the recipient’s address and amount.
Confirm the transaction on your Ledger device.
✅ Always double-check the address on your Ledger screen, not just your computer screen.
